Our Story

Biblically, the number 7 symbolizes divine perfection and wholeness.

And so begins our story – a story, not of two perfect beings, but of two imperfect individuals made perfectly for each other and brought together in His perfect timing. So our story is really God’s story, for we had little part in it other than being willing participants.

Written in 2011

We, Jasher Mark Benjamin and Jane Susanna Gnanamanickam, first became acquainted 7 years ago at Madras Christian College. Little did we know then what God had in store for usand it wasn’t until November 2010 that we reconnected, interestingly, over Facebook & Blackberry – talk about being a tech-age couple!

Over the years, we believe, God kept us for each other despite various circumstances and challenges. As individuals, we had both entrusted our lives to Jesus, and wanted to find each other through Him. Jash had always believed that God had only one person in store for him, and had committed himself to waiting for that special one. Janie, too, had learned to trust God to bring His best to her rather than trying things on her own.

Neither of us had been particularly looking to get into a relationship, but God had promised Janie through prophetic words that she would be meeting her life partner before the end of 2010, that they would share a lot of commonalities, and that it would all happen quickly. Although the end of the year was fast approaching, God reassured her saying, “Impossible is nothing. Have I ever lied to you? When it happens, you will know.”

Janie prolonged her travels in the hopes that she would meet someone, assuming her chances of meeting Mr. Right back in Ooty were nil. But to prove His point, God patiently waited for Janie to return to her secluded little attic in Ooty before He allowed Jash to connect with her on a personal level over Blackberry Messenger. Can’t underestimate God and His abilities after that!

We started off just casually catching up as college mates but quickly built up a good rapport, as we began to realize our many similarities almost from the start – and that had been one of our desires, to recognize ourselves in each other. It’s amazing how God cares about even the smallest of our dreams and desires and brings them to fulfillment when we entrust them to Him (the latter being far easier said than done)!

Needless to say, we took a liking to each other almost instantly, but both knew better than to fall headlong into anything without knowing for certain that God was in it. So before our hearts got ahead of us, we took time to pray about it individually, and also asked God for confirmation through others if we were meant for each other.

Jash felt a deep peace in his heart, apart from being truly-madly-deeply in love. Whatever he had specifically been praying for in a life partner were answered through Janie, and he did not doubt God’s leading. God had promised that when he met his match, there would be a shift in his work and ministry, and their lives would take on a whole new dimension. That was confirmed when Janie shared how God had shown her that she would be going to a new level in every way, hand in hand with Jash.

God also specifically spoke to Janie about Jash being the one, and that he would be like a Moses and she his “Aaron”. That, too, was confirmed when later Jash shared how his Grandfather had prophesied over him as a baby, saying he would be like Moses and God would be his mentor and Father. Nothing was going to hold Janie’s true feelings at bay, now that she had God’s stamp of approval. She was head over heels in love!

But that wasn’t all. God continued to affirm the same things in different ways and through different people all through the next few weeks, until we were left with no shade of doubt that this was it and there was no looking back!

At our first face-to-face meeting, we were beyond doubt and beyond belief. We remember pinching ourselves hard, making sure that it wasn’t just a dream or a fairy tale. Both of us were in awe of every little detail that God had intricately planned (there are way too many to mention here), and more especially His perfect timing in bringing us together.

Jash proposed on the 13th of January, and of course Janie accepted! Only later did we learn that Janie’s Dad & Mum had been engaged on the same day. Our engagement celebration is to be on the 12th of February 2011 – the only day that actually worked out, and also happens to be the day Jash’s Dad & Mom were engaged themselves.

We both agreed that the perfect time for our wedding would be 7 months from when we connected. So we were married on the 4th of July 2011.

Our story has only just begun… But we’re certain that God has a perfect plan and purpose for us, and are excited to see it being fulfilled in and through us, every day of our lives.

Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]– To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it). –Ephesians 3:20,21
